I wanted to *believe* (see what I did there?!) that the new season would defy the curse of "yet another season" of apparently ended TV shows. Ted Lasso had potential, but was it enough to break free from the curse?

---

This season presented a complete change of scenery, moving over to the Women Football League, telling us how the women's teams are often ostracized, underpaid, underestimated while also telling us they don't recognized enough, but told us all of these by...shifting the attention to other topics?

#### Here be spoilers, read at your own risk

This season started focusing Ted, that decided to leave Richmond and go back in the US to be closer to his son. Then Rebecca, Higgins and Keeley visited him asking him to coach the newly founded women team, discarding a female coach they already took in consideration. Hmm, why not putting him into a helping position instead of a leading one? Oh wait, the show is called Ted Lasso, right.

But then the show veered drastically from following the women from the, well, women's team, to following these main topics:

- Keeley and Roy's break up and subsequential make up and \[redacted, too spoiler-y\];
- Coach Beard's fallout;
- Rebecca's on and off with Math..Matthj... the pilot;
- Zelda joining the chat and bringing chaos;
- Ted Lasso being Ted Lasso, pretty much, dropping a few wise words to his companions and turning the situation upside down;
- boys can't resist jumping while Jump Around is played;
- various unneded cameos (yeah, ok, it was great to see the Wonder Kid, but...was it really needed? Did it really gave a sense of closure to the previous season?);
- Rojas has a sister.

What about the women?! Oh yeah, hold on, we learnt that:

- Boots (the goalie) doesn't like wearing gloves because all the goalies are crazy (their words, not mine);
- the captain has two kids and the father/ex husband (?) can't keep them because he has radio gigs;
- Gemma had to decide between career and sports.

If I had to put on a scale all the previous seasons' characters ruckus/drama and presenting and giving value to the new players I'd honestly say that the tip would dramatically favour the drama of all the previous seasons' characters.

So, to wrap it, while this new season has reminded us that women (in sports and not) often have kids and they need to pass through hooks and loops to work or doing anything else while raising them, *especially with society saying that it's exclusively a mother's job (more on this below)*, Ted Lasso doesn't really add anything to the conversation and in fact is focused almost exclusively on the already well-known characters, doing an awful job at presenting the new team.

😡

a personal note from me: it's effin' 2026 folks, it is a ****parent** job to raise kids, not just the mother's.

To give an answer to the original question, do I still believe in Ted Lasso?

*No, not anymore.*
